This year there were also the Spirit of New Zealand Awards presented to three individuals who went above excellent in their ability to carry out the true spirit of the New Zealand people.

1. Peter and Glennis Meir - Cliff Edge by the Sea - who opened their home to a couple who were hurt in a car accident and took the wife in their home as if she was a life long family member
2. Doug Johanson and Jan Poole - Both for their efforts to assist travellers in need but also for their dedication to preserving the ecology and environment of the Coromandel Peninsula. Doug the original father of eco tourism is tireless in his efforts to educate and preserve the beautiful New Zealand land
3. Sonny Corbett Rotorua who gently teaches travellers the history and legend of the Maori. He carries a proud history of his land and people and gives that history to travellers in a friendly and gentle manner
